Comparing the Battery Life of Portable Oxygen Concentrators

When you need to rent a portable oxygen concentrator, the first thing you need to consider is how well it will meet your dosage needs, as prescribed by your doctor. You need a portable oxygen concentrator that delivers a continuous flow? Go for a versatile model, such as the DeVilbiss iGO or SeQual Eclipse, which are both portables that offer continuous flow settings. Only need a pulse dose? The Respironics EverGo or the LifeChoice will do the trick.

After your oxygen needs are met, check out how long the battery will last, how long it will take to recharge, and if you will be able to charge the battery while plugged into an outlet, so that you can continue using the machine.

Reviews of our Portable Oxygen Concentrators

The pros should always outweigh the cons, but you should take them into consideration – the good as well as the bad – when you are shopping for an oxygen concentrator. Even the best models, or the one that is best for someone’s individual needs, won’t be 100% perfect. Knowing what to expect in the way of the “cons” will also help you prepare for these things down the line, and they won’t seem as bad if you already saw them coming.

LifeChoice (Portable)

Cons: Not a good varying flow setting (pulse dose only from 1 to 3), loudest portable oxygen concentrator (almost 50 decibels), short battery life for one battery (2 hours at highest setting).
Pros: Very small and lightweight (barely 5 lbs, only 9.5” high by 7.5” wide by a little over 3” deep), features sleep mode technology that adjusts the flow by your breathing patterns, FAA approved, can travel to an altitude of 10,000 feet outside of an airplane, available for rent.

National Fitness and Sports Month – Physical Activity and COPD

National Fitness and Sports Month

May has been declared National Fitness and Sports Month to try to educate Americans on how they can help prevent diseases and general bad health by getting the physical activity they need. According to Fitness.gov and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an adult should be getting around 150 minutes of exercise per week.

Of course, these 150 minutes can be broke up into smaller amounts of time each day – that divides out to 30 minutes 5 days a week, or about 22 minutes 7 days a week. If you can’t reach 30 or 22 minutes every day that you exercise, but you dedicate at least 15 minutes a day, this will still make a difference on your general health. A combination of cardio and strength exercise is recommended, to cover your circulatory and respiratory systems, as well as your bone and muscles strength and balance.

A Decline in COPD – How Education and Awareness are Saving Lives

A Decline in COPD

A recent report put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), says that since 1999, the prevalence for deaths caused by COPD, along with hospitalizations and age-adjusted prevalence. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease has been at the #4 leading cause of death. There are an estimated 16 million people who have COPD, but it is suspected that 22 million actually have it and some haven’t been diagnosed.

This is the reason why COPD is so dangerous – because many people go for years with the subtle first warning signs of the disease without any real reason to suspect that they have it. Most people with COPD won’t suspect that anything is wrong until they start to experience the more obvious symptoms, and this is why many people have severe COPD when they are finally diagnosed.

The 525 model by DeVilbiss, one of the best brands in oxygen therapy, made another home oxygen concentrator that is both great on features and easy to work with. This is one of the newest models, but with the same parts and reliable functions as the previous home models, the 303 and 515A concentrators.

This model was made to be low maintenance, but still easy for anyone to clean or change the filter when it needs it. Its user friendly set-up and interface, as well as its small size and reliability make this home oxygen concentrator one of our main customer favorites. Oxygen Therapy Can Help Those With COPD Live Longer

One long-term study conducted in Sweden showed a 3.8% drop in the risk of death for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients, who took part in oxygen therapy over the course of 18 years. Even though this is still a small percentage, one has to consider how many people were included in this study. 7,628 adults between the ages of 66 to 73 were monitored and 5,497 died after they had stopped with the oxygen therapy. The study started in January 1987 and concluded in December of 2004.

The people who took part in the study died from various disease, some of which did not relate to COPD. While 76% of those who died, died from respiratory illness, 16% died from a circulatory disease, 7.6% from cancer and 1.1% from digestive organ disease.
