How long does an oxygen concentrator last?

Oxygen concentrators are durable machines that provide oxygen around the clock; they're meant to last. The time an oxygen concentrator lasts depends on how well it's cleaned and maintained.

How long does an oxygen concentrator last on average?

There isn't a definite answer to how long a concentrator lasts, although many units run anywhere from 4-7 years. The lifespan of your unit also depends on how much oxygen you use, how often you use it, your environment, and which model you have.

  • Do not use your oxygen concentrator once the purity level falls below 80%. With low oxygen purity, you may not get the amount you require.
  • Check your user's manual for maintenance instructions. Proper maintenance and cleaning lengthen the life of your unit.
  • Some oxygen concentrators contain a gross particle filter that you must replace every two years. The filter may require more frequent cleaning in environments with dust, dirt, or pet dander.
  • Most units contain another filter that a technician must change.
