Just like any other piece of electrical equipment, an oxygen concentrator can stop working due to technical issues or after it’s gotten over a certain age. You might also have instances where it can malfunction due to an outside influence, with no problems in the concentrator itself.

If an oxygen concentrator is not providing oxygen, it could be due to several different reasons. The system in an oxygen machine is made up of a few intricate parts that all work together to purify and deliver medical-grade oxygen, so you can breathe it in.

However, before you call a maintenance technician, you can do some troubleshooting on your own to see if you can fix the problem yourself. Sometimes, the cause of a big problem can be a small and easy fix.

Safety Tips

First things first, let’s start with understanding and keeping the below-mentioned safety tips in mind before we troubleshoot.

  • Switch to a backup source of oxygen while troubleshooting the unit. The availability of a secondary source of oxygen is highly recommended by oxygen concentrator manufacturers for situations like these and power outages.
  • Do not disassemble the unit yourself. It could cause safety risks and invalidate the product warranty.
  • Keep the device away from sources of heat, smoke, and pollution.
  • Keep the device away from water or any liquid so that it’s not spilled over accidentally.
  • If you are in a car, unplug the DC power supply when the automobile is turned off. Not doing this will deplete your car’s battery.
  • Always use genuine manufacturer accessories and service parts. A counterfeit power supply may damage the circuit board, a carry bag not provided by the manufacturer may hinder the ventilation of concentrator and sieve beds bought from an unreliable source may adversely affect the oxygen purity levels.

Oxygen Concentrator Troubleshooting - Quick Solutions

Quick Solutions

Here are some do-it-yourself solutions to troubleshoot the oxygen concentrator issue:

If the oxygen concentrator is not turning on:

  • Turn the device on by pressing the power button twice. Some oxygen concentrators turn on by pressing the on/off button two times or holding down the button for a few seconds.
  • Make sure all the cords are connected properly. Moving around or accidentally stepping on the wire may detach it and block the power supply. Check whether the power cord is plugged all the way into the wall outlet and power adapter, and check that the power adapter is connected to the oxygen concentrator.
  • Check for any wire damage. Regular wear-and-tear may damage the power cord or compromise the insulation. If there is any damage, replace the cable with a new one.
  • The power supply adapter should be well-ventilated. An overheated adapter will shut down the concentrator.
  • Do not use an extension cord to power your unit as it may not provide ample power to operate the device.
  • When using a portable oxygen concentrator, see that the battery is properly installed.
  • If the battery is correctly latched and the device is still not turning on then disconnect the power supply, pull the battery out, connect back the power supply without the battery, and hold the power button to turn it on. Note: some devices won’t turn on without battery installed, even when the unit is connected to the power supply.
  • When traveling internationally, make sure that the input voltage of the power adapter is compatible with the power source.
  • Check whether the wall outlet is working and there is no power outage (a breaker may be tripped). If it’s not working, try another wall outlet.v

If the oxygen concentrator isn’t working, even though it is turned on and the power light or control screen is lit up:

  • Make sure the nasal cannula is connected to the nozzle on the oxygen concentrator.
  • If using a humidifier bottle, make sure that the cannula tubing is connected properly.
  • Position the nasal cannula correctly on your face, or else the pulse dose will not work.
  • Ensure that the tubing is not twisted or bent.
  • Check whether the flow-meter knob is closed.
  • The device should be in a well-ventilated space.
  • When using a carrying bag, make sure that the unit is placed correctly and vents are not blocked.

Oxygen Concentrator Troubleshooting - Errors and Alerts

Oxygen Concentrator Errors and Alerts

After you’ve checked these possible causes and it’s still not delivering oxygen, it could be due to an internal part failure. You can check the alert displayed on the control screen. Let’s see how we can troubleshoot some common oxygen concentrator errors and alerts.

  • Low oxygen alert – Check to see whether the airflow is being blocked.
  • Oxygen purity is lower than 80% – Make sure the intake vent isn’t clogged or blocked. Turn the unit off and clean it, if necessary. The intake filter needs to be replaced or cleaned.
  • No breath detection – Check that the cannula is properly positioned your face and you are breathing through your nose. Check for any twists and obstructions with tubing. If the breath is not detected for approximately 30 minutes device shuts down to conserve power.
  • Low or empty battery – Attach the external power supply to recharge the battery or exchange the battery.
  • Battery temperature – If the battery exceeds the temperature limit, it won’t work. If you are in a hot place, it makes the battery warm quickly. Move to a cooler location.
  • System Temperature – Oxygen Concentrator will not produce oxygen when the temperature crosses the tolerance range. If the device is hot, move to a cooler area. Check that the air inlet and outlet vent are clean and clear. If the vents are blocked, then the unit works harder to maintain the airflow thus making it warmer. On the other hand, if you are in a very cold place, move to a warmer place. Wait for at least two minutes for the device to warm up before turning it on.
  • Other system errors – Check the user manual provided with the unit to troubleshoot or contact the equipment provider.

Performing a Hard Restart

Just like, sometimes, our smartphones require a hard restart to turn on, the oxygen concentrators may require it too. Though the situation is rare, here are the steps to perform a hard restart on a portable oxygen concentrator:

  1. The machine must be completely shut down
  2. Disconnect the power adapter
  3. Remove the batteries
  4. Let the unit stand for 20 minutes without power
  5. Plug the AC power into the machine – do not attach the batteries yet
  6. Turn the unit on and use it for 10 minutes on AC power
  7. Then, disconnect the power supply to put the batteries back inv

Calling Customer Care

  • You can generally find the customer care number of your equipment provider on a sticker placed on the unit
  • If you are not sure where you got the unit from, then call the manufacturer customer care with the following information at your disposal:
    • Make and Model of the oxygen concentrator
    • Serial number
    • The problem you are facing
    • Whether you are currently traveling
    • Since when you are facing the problem

Preventative Methods

Maintenance of this medical device is critical for its flawless performance.

  • You can replace or clean the intake filter yourself. It should be replaced every 2 years and cleaned every 2 weeks. It can be cleaned with a mild detergent and water, and left to dry completely before being used again. If the filter looks worn out, it can be replaced sooner than the 2-year mark.
  • Another cause, that you might not be able to fix on your own, would be a weakened sieve bed. This is the component that filters the nitrogen out of the air to provide purified oxygen. The compressor might also be worn out and in need of a replacement.
  • It’s important to keep up on maintenance, and we can help you with questions about maintenance and replacements when necessary.

    • Thank you for your question, Robin. If you’ll give our Customer Service Department a call at 877-303-9289, they’ll be able to work with you to trouble shoot your machine.

        • Each concentrator is designed differently. If the concentrator thinks that there is an issue that can hinder the concentrator’s functioning, it may shut down. While we don’t know which concentrator you are talking about, we’d suggest calling your equipment provider to troubleshoot the issue.

          • That seems odd. Looks like the flow-meter is malfunctioning. Please contact your equipment provider and they can help troubleshoot it.
Also, try a hard reset. Turn off the unit, unplug it and wait for 5 minutes. Then plug it back in and use as normal.

          • Dear Mr. Jain,

I have pulmonary fibrois and working toward getting a double lung transplant. I’ve had a three different oxygen concentrators and having issue with a fume smell coming from both 10L concentrators. I receive concentrator rental from a good company and have used Drive Dibilviss and Philips Resperonics. Would you be able to advise what is causing the fume blow back, smells similar to cigarette smoke that comes through the hose and canulus? I would so appreciate any insight you could share with me on what it could be or cause the fume smell. Thank you.

          • Hello Suzanne,

There are a couple of reasons that cause a fume-like smell.
            1. The concentrator was used in a smoky environment before
            2. Concentrator was stored in a place that gets cigarette smoke
            3. There is an internal issue with the unit which is causing the smell

I guess the best and most economical option would be to purchase a new 10L concentrator with 3 years warranty. We carry Airsep Intensity 10 and Respironics Millennium M10. Talk to our Oxygen Specialist for a free consultation, please give us a call at (877) 644-4581.

          • Hello, Mr. Jain
I have oxygen concentrator from haier and the type is ha-105. I bought it 3 days ago and it could operate well, but today, when I want to use it, the device suddenly shuit down, and it make beep beep sounds, and I can turn it on until now. Could you help me to fix it or do you any suggestion for my problem, please???
            Thankyou

          • Hello Amalia, I’m not aware of that model of an oxygen concentrator. Please contact your equipment provider for support.

          • My oxygo machine started beeping and said column. Turned off. Could it
            be a fluke

          • Perform a hard reset to troubleshoot. Turn off the unit, remove the power cable, remove the battery and let it sit for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, plug the power cable in and turn on the unit without battery. If the error is gone then use the machine normally with battery. Otherwise, contact your equipment provider.

        • I have just bought a DEDAKJ MODEL NUMBER DE-Q1/DE-Q1W but it is not giving out any oxygen is there any thing I can do can you help me please thanks

      • Well that doesn’t help your costumer’s when reviewing your product. We the consumer would like a possible solution to some of these questions. 🤦‍♀️

        • I have a inogen G5 bought in 2022 when I use it, after 10 minutes it gets an 02 alarm with a triangle and a amber light. What could cause this

        • Hi, I plugged in US manufactured Philips respironics which is 110V to 230 V (in india). Initially all the 3 lights blinked with a beep and shut off within a second. Although I have left the product at the service center, just trying to understand what it would have caused to the device? Will it be fixed? The service center in India doesn’t say anything stating it’s a US manufactured product.

          • Respironics Everflo “US models” are different than “export models” because of different power requirements. US models are 120 V (±10%) and export models are 230 V (±10%). They do not have an input range of 110V to 230V as you mentioned. Please check which model you purchased from your vendor.
Only an authorized service center can guide you regarding repairs.

          • I have a inogen G5 bought in 2022 when I use it, after 10 minutes it gets an 02 alarm with a triangle and a amber light. What could cause this

          • The O2 alarm with a triangle and amber light on your Inogen G5 could indicate a low oxygen purity level. There are several possible reasons for this issue:

Filters: Check the filters in your Inogen G5 and make sure they are clean and not clogged. Dirty filters can affect the oxygen purity.

Cannula or Tubing: Inspect your cannula or tubing for any kinks, blockages, or leaks. These issues can disrupt the oxygen flow and affect the purity.

If you have checked these potential causes and the issue persists, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer’s customer support.

  1. Yesterday my portable concentrator would not turn on…I was in the middle of no where with no backup..the fan was whirling but the machine would not turn on…what should I do…I don’t trust it now

    • If you are experiencing issues with your machine please contact our Customer Service department immediately at 877-303-9289. They will be able to troubleshoot and assist in remedying your machine.

    • Thank you for your comment, Esther. Have you checked your G3 manual as it states? If you need an additional manual you can download one here: Oxygen Concentrator Manuals. If the message persists after you have gone over the trouble shooting steps in your manual you can reach out to our service department at 877-303-9289.

  2. We have an inogen one g3 unit that has stopped putting air out. The unit pumps and air does come out the top vents on machine, but none comes out of the piece that connects to the hose. Any ideas? Thanks you

    • Thank you for your question, Diana. Have you consulted your user manual? If that doesn’t help to troubleshoot your unit’s condition you’re welcome to call our Service department at 877-303-9289.

  3. i have a respironics everflo l OPI, my question is , is it a real bitch to rebuild the compressor ? can it be done w/o special tools? let me no eh!

  4. I have no alarms or lights on but after cleaning outside of concentrator I now have a noise like a vibration or motor noise how should I trouble shoot this, I recently replaced upper outside filter

    • Thank you for your question, Teri. If you’ll give our Service Department a call they may be able to walk you through troubleshooting your unit over the phone. Calling them directly is a great way for them to be able to hear the concentrator running in real time and make suggestions based on what they hear!

  5. I have a Respironics EverGo that is giving me an error code 02, which according to the manual, means that it is not putting out the selected amount of oxygen. The technician I spoke with on the phone thought it was likely due to a weekend sieve, but that it “should” operate, although not at fullest function, for the flight back home. I am on vacation and just need to use this portable concentrator for the flight home. There is nowhere to get it repaired or looked at where I am (in Hawaii). Do you have any recommendations, information, or thoughts about continuing to use it as is for one more day?

    • Thank you for your comment, Lauri. With this error code, it means as you mentioned, that it is not putting out the amount of oxygen the setting requires. This is a decision that you will need to make based on your individual saturation levels and what you are comfortable with and require medically. If your prescription requires you to be at lets say a 90% saturation level and your current saturation levels are not at 90% we would suggest contacting your provider or physician. Do you have a pulse oximeter so that you can check your oxygen saturation levels?

      • I have model:DE-1B Standard Dedakj home oxygen concentrator.
It has started making a rattling noise. The machine makes oxygen
        Why would do?

    • An oxygen concentrator can experience issues for a multitude of reasons including, lack of proper storage, climate conditions, altitude, extreme temperatures, lack of proper battery usage and charging, etc.

  6. I am electronics engineer ,i recive one oxygen concentrator problem this its produce high air but not oxygen I need help from your staff Thank you

  7. We have 2 Respironic Everflo machines. A used older model we just purchased makes a puffing noise that the other machine does not. Did older machines make this puffing noise?

    • Thank you for your inquiry. I have passed along your information to a specialist who will reach out regarding your request. For more immediate assistance feel free to give our specialists a call at 888-360-9628 or if you prefer email sales@amsrco.com

  8. I have an inogen one. I’m nervous because the service soon light stays on. If it shuts down, I’m in trouble.

    • Service soon is usually an indicator that some sort of maintenance needs to be completed. Please contact our customer care center at 877-303-9289 so that they can best troubleshoot your message.

      • It takes about a month from the time the order is placed, that you will receive the “columns” at your door.
Make sure you order them in an absurdly timely manner.
No one will tell you why it takes so long, but it does. You have been warned.
My advice: keep a set onhand. They have to be replaced at about 9 months, at a cost of approx. $110.00 U.S. (including shipping).

        • Hello Mike, that sounds like a long time. We always maintain columns in our inventory and ship them within 24 hours. I don’t see your file in our records, where did you make your purchase?
In these trying times, the supply chain is affected and some service parts may observe longer than usual shipping time.

          • I have experienced a condition described in an earler post.
My Inogen g3 started making a loud noise accompanied by a vibration.
I did hard reset a few times, over a 2 day period. The g3 on at least 5 occasions returned yo the loud noise, vibration, and shutdown.
I let the machine sit for 3 weeks and was resolved to having to send to Inogen for service.
I powered it up, but it is working normally. (For an hour now.)
            What is this about?
I don’t trust the machine, if it shuts down while I’m away from home, I’m in real trouble.
Why would it not work for a week but after sitting unplugged for 3 weeks, operate again?
This is not reassuring, and for the cost it is UNACCEPTABLE!
I know you aren’t Inogen, but you sell their equipment.
This is dangerous, as I cannot be without oxygen therapy.
If I have to rely on tanks, why spend $3,000.00 on a portable machine that is unreliable?

          • Hi Mike, I understand that must be frustrating. Inogen G3 is one of the most popular and reliable units out in the market. The experience was not supposed to like this. Please contact your equipment provider for service options – new units come with a three years warranty. Like any other electronic device, oxygen concentrators may malfunction and may require repairs. Manufacturers suggest having an alternative source of oxygen for situations like these.

    • Please give our customer care center a call at 877-303-9289 so that they can help you troubleshoot your issue over the phone.

  9. my question is that “how i can know that oxygen concentrator has stopped working to supply pure or good supply oxygen”

    • Your first indicator would be if the machine is giving you an error message or there is a yellow light indicator. Your manual should help you with this. The other indicator that you should be looking at is what your oxygen saturation level is by using a pulse oximeter. If it is below 95, then you should maybe look at having your machine looked at.

  10. My sister-in-law’s inogen has a warning that is an yellow/orange emblem and manual says ? something with sieve ?

    • I would recommend that you call the place where you purchased the unit from. If the group is under warranty, they will service it for free.

  11. I got an Ever Flow SN 0026173. REF 1020000 it runs great for about 30 minutes then the red light turns on & it quits I’m thinking it is overheating

    • Hi Kenton, It certainly sounds like you need to have you machine looked at or send it in for service. If you call our service department 877.303.9289 who can find out more and see if there is something that might help. Good Luck.

  12. I have EverFlo machine is running great but from this morning its beeping and red light is blinking continuously. Help me with this problem… waiting for your kind response.

  13. My tubing makes a crackling noise. New tubing will last about 5 days then the crackling noise begins making it impossible to sleep.

    • Ensure that you are using the correct tubing for your oxygen flow requirement, meaning you must use a high-flow cannula for high oxygen flow. Also, make sure that you clean your cannula twice a week with warm soapy water.
You can try ‘Soft’ cannula and ‘Quiet’ cannula from Salter Labs; that can resolve your issue.

    • I have a inogen G5 bought in 2022 when I use it, after 10 minutes it gets an 02 alarm with a triangle and a amber light. What could cause this

  14. My concentrator all of a sudden stop blowing out air . My furnace went out earlier . Could the cause be that it got to cold ??

    • Home oxygen concentrators may stop working at a temperature lower than 55ºF. Yes, cold might be a reason why your unit stopped working.

  15. I have a G3 concentrator the other day a rattling noise started, I pulled the battery off and reset it , after a few minutes of the noise would come back. I put it on the charger and let it sit for a day . I came back figured I would try a hard reset it will not power on , or allow me to do a hard reset . Ideas ?

    • It might be an internal problem with your Inogen G3. Please contact your equipment provider (where you purchased the concentrator from) or the manufacturer to get your unit serviced.

  16. we have an oxygen concentrator Airsep, it generates oxygen but there is leakage of air through the valve block assembly, how can your company help me?

  17. I have a evenflow concentrater it stay for 3 min and then off giving out good o2 when on can it just the filter need ro be changed

    • There are a couple of ways to troubleshoot your Inogen G3. First, perform a hard reset. I’ve mentioned the steps below on how to do it. Second, go through the Inogen G3 user manual. Third, contact your equipment provider or the manufacturer.

Performing a Hard Restart to Troubleshoot Inogen G3:
      >Turn off the machine
      >Disconnect the power adapter
      >Remove the batteries
      >Let the unit stand for 20 minutes without power
      >Plug the AC power into the machine – do not attach the batteries yet
      >Turn the unit on and use it for 10 minutes on AC power
      >Then, disconnect the power supply to put the batteries back in and use as usual

  18. My problem in my oxygen concentrator is in filter .my question is how clean its and what kind of zeolite which used in it . When air input to apparatus is out the same how get the oxygen only. Thank you .

    • Hi Luqman, oxygen concentrator takes in the air from the surroundings, filters out the nitrogen and then delivers the medical-grade oxygen through the nozzle. The filtered nitrogen is released via exhaust vents so that the patient gets only pure oxygen. If you think there is a problem with the filters, then clean the intake filters. If the device is still not working perfectly, then it might be time to replace your sieve bed columns. Please, contact your equipment provider.

    • A home concentrator can randomly shut off due to a variety of reasons. We recommend performing a hard reset as mentioned below. If the hard reset doesn’t fix the problem then contact your equipment provider.

Performing a hard-reset on home oxygen concentrator:

      • Turn off the unit and disconnect the power adapter
      • Let the unit stand for 20 minutes without power
      • Connect the power adapter
      • Turn the unit on and use it
  19. I have an Imogen 3g, last night I turn my concentrator on it ran for a few minutes, gave a yellow warning light and shut down. I took out the battery and unplugged the power cord for about five minutes, but everything back turned on and it ran for about five minutes and shut down again. Please advise

    • Inogen G3 may shut down for various reasons. Make sure that the intake vents are clean and unobstructed. Obstructed airflow can cause internal heat buildup and shut the unit down. Also, make sure that the device is well-ventilated and at least 1 foot away from curtains and furniture. Try to run the unit directly from a wall outlet without any battery – there may be an issue with the battery. If these solutions don’t work, the problem may be internal. If you see an error message on the screen, note it down and contact your equipment provider.

  20. My spouse uses a concentrator at 7000 feet. We traveled down to sea level and it would alarm and shut off after 3 to 5 minutes. Disconnected hoses, no change. Hard reboots, no change. Unplugged charging plug, no change. It did work at 2000 feet to and from sea level. When we arrived home it worked fine. What is going on.

    • We can diagnose the issue if you can share what alarm came up. Oxygen concentrators work fine at sea level. It should be some other factor that caused the alarm.

    • Check whether pressing the ‘Bulb’ icon button on the control panel helps. If it doesn’t the unit needs to come in for repairs.

  21. My home concentrator appears to operate well But no oxygen gets out. Air does get out from the outlet, but the oxygen level of the air is 20%.

  22. I have had an Inogen 4 for two years. It has never had anything collect on the filter screen. Ever. I have a long haired cat, the unit is on the floor and I don’t vacuum as often as I should. Is it possible it has never worked properly since the screen never has anything on it?

    • If your machine is working at low oxygen concentration, it’d give an alert otherwise it should be okay.

      • Hello i am using oxybliss CONCENTRATOR. Its was working fine from two days all of sudden it support supplying proper oxygen. There is no error on scree and the light is blue as always.
I kept the device in open area with full ventilation.
        please can you help me

  23. Good Day
My mobile concentrator works for about half an hour and then sounds an alarm.
What could be possible problems, please

    • Please contact your equipment provider (where you purchased the concentrator from) or the manufacturer to get your unit serviced.

  24. HI: i got mine from the va. an they say i’m compalining. but at night i can blow back the nose hose an it seems like not enough pressuer to me . there is hardly any air coming out of it, how can i check to see if the air quanity coming out can i get a gage to check it to see if is’s correct. it’s scary to have something like this. APPRECIATE ANY HELP THANK YOU GARY

    • Hello Gary, with supplemental oxygen the primary objective is to keep your blood oxygen saturation above normal level. You can check your blood saturation with help of a finger pulse oximeter. If the blood saturation is less than 92% even after supplemental oxygen, consult with your doctor.
Oxygen concentrators give a warning if there is no flow of oxygen.

  25. I have a Respironics SimplyGo portable concentrator that will not work consistently with the car charger. Once you plug the car charger in the unit will work fine for 10-15 minutes and then it starts beeping and it will continue beeping until you unplug it. There is nothing on the screen telling my why it is beeping. My supplier has replaced the battery and the car charger which made no difference so they just replaced the unit but the new one does the exact same thing. Even if I keep the charger plugged in and put up with the beeping sound the battery is not being charged. Any suggestions?

    • It might be a power issue – how much the unit needs versus how much your car is supplying. I’d take the car to a car mechanic to see if power is an issue.
Also, if possible, try to run the unit on lower oxygen settings and see if resolves the issue.

  26. Why does my Inogen G4 turn itself off, then when I bump the unit it turns itself back on. It never stays on for very long before turning off. I have tried the hard start and the restart. Nothing works. the colum is new and the battery is full.

    • Please contact your equipment provider (where you purchased the concentrator from) or the manufacturer to get your unit serviced.

    • Please do a hard restart or contact your equipment provider (where you purchased the concentrator from) or the manufacturer to get your unit serviced.

  27. My Phillips Simply Go just don’t go just a about 4 Min. On Continues and Pulse . A technical fault alarm says corrective action is required..Let the unit warm up,If continues contact home care provider.A Triangle with a Exclamation in it.What does this mean?

    • You can find the user manual here: Oxygen Concentrator Manuals.

Perform a hard reset to troubleshoot. Please turn off the unit, remove the power cable, remove the battery and let it sit for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, plug the power cable in and turn on the unit without the battery. If the error is gone then use the machine normally with a battery. Otherwise, contact your equipment provider, the unit may require repairs.

  28. Hello. I saw your website and hope you can help. I am writing to you because of the difficulty in servicing a POC. This situation began in August 2022. GCE portable oxygen concentrator model RS-00502 was purchased in August 2021 from a local health supply retailer.

The issue happened a few days after replacing the cannula and cannula filter. Almost 1 year to the day, the POC issued an alert with code “07” and shut itself down. I searched online to find out exactly what “07” meant and what to do next. The was a lack of information about code “07” online. The was a lack of local “authorized” repair technicians. One “authorized” repair establishment required the POC be sent to their facility 1500 mles away. A couple of GCE servicing videos were found on YouTube, but they seemed to be training videos. One showed the steps to replacing the sieve bed. The POC needed to be serviced.

I called the retailer. They said to call bring the unit in. When the unit was brought to the store, several calls were made to the store’s manager and owner. The customer service rep mentioned a possible “sieve bed” issue. I was to contact customer service at GCE and send the POC myself, as it would be less expensive. I was assured GCE would provide assitance. As GCE is a global company, I contacted GCE US/Canada customer service. The rep said they only deal with the retail establishments, not individuals. The rep promised to contact the local retailer and update the procedures for servicing the POC. As the retailer and GCE both had “Contact Us” on their respective websites, emails were sent describing the issue and steps taken to resolve it. Neither replied. The local manager indicated the “Contact Us” link was only for ordering items.

The POC was brought back to the retailer. As the retailer did not have boxes or supplies in which to pack the POC for shipping to GCE, I made sure the POC was professionally boxed in accordance with any shipping regulations. The POC was left with the retailer. They said they would take steps to have it serviced. In the meantime, another GCE POC was rented for several hundred dollars per month. The estimated time for service and repair was two weeks. However, it was recommended the unit be rented for one month just in case more time was needed.

After a couple of weeks, the retailer said it had not yet sent the POC for servicing. GCE wanted the retailer to first perform specific steps in order to better determine the specific issue. I asked the customer service rep whether or not any other of their customers with GCE units were ever in need of servicing. The reply was yes. I asked where and by whom the other units, including rental units were serviced. The owner’s manual warns about the POC warranty being voided if it is not serviced by an “authorized” repair technician. Since I couldn’t find an “authorized” repair technician, I wondered who did service the units. It seems the retailer did some of the basic servicing of POCs “in house.”

The retailer performed steps very similar to what is described on this website. Still the issue was not resolved. The POC still would not function. The customer rep said a sieve bed needed to be purchased and I needed to pay for it. The price I was to be charged was about the same as what was found available on line.
I asked about the sieve bed replacement – if an authorized technician was needed. The customer rep indicated this was done “in house” too.

Another month has elapsed. Contacting the retailer again for an update, it seems the GCE Sieve Bed Assembly RS – 00513 is unavailable. GCE explained to the retail customer rep it was on “backorder.” The rental fee for a third month was charged today. The retail customer rep suggested I rent another GCE oxygen concentrator – a stationary home model for one third the rental fee for the portable POC.

My father is managing fine and fortunately is able to pay for the rental. The POC has improved my father’s quality of life and I am grateful. However, this experience makes me wonder, “What is going on?” When a person’s life depends on supplemental oxygen, the service, replacement and repair of this should not be so complicated and lengthy. What manufacturers POCs are most reliable? Are other manufacturers having similar supply chain problems? It seems there are issues which need further investigation and study. Thank you for this opportunity to write to you.

  29. Hi i have an Inogen one g4 . Suddenly one day it made a pop sound and wil run but not release oxygen . Do you think it is the compressor. Can this part be purchased . I was given this machine by a friend as a gift and it ony has 250 hours on it. I tried getting new columns but it didnt work

    • Low concentration symbol is not dangerous. You can continue using the machine at lower oxygen purity. However, you’d need to change the columns or get the unit serviced to receive medical-grade oxygen. This can be done within a month when alert appears for the first time.

  30. Hello
I have an Inogen one G3, it makes a puffing sound and then shuts off. There is no error code. What could be the problem.

  31. I have a concept 2 currently outside of USA. International. My concentrator is on takes a wild to warm up but it says purity ok. Then in 15 minutes it goes red and says purity low . I will have to go and rent one without insurance .

    • If your concentrator is showing a low purity alarm after running for a short time, it could be due to several reasons such as a clogged or dirty air filter, a malfunctioning sieve bed, or a problem with the compressor. It’s recommended to check the user manual for troubleshooting tips or contact the manufacturer’s customer support for assistance.

I wrote yesterday and it was erase .

    • I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your concentrator. If the device is indicating a low purity error, it could be due to several factors such as a clogged filter, damaged sieve beds, or malfunctioning components. It’s best to have the device inspected and serviced by a qualified technician to determine the root cause of the issue. If you’re unable to call the manufacturer’s support line, you may want to try reaching out to a local supplier or technician who may be able to assist you. Renting backup equipment is a good idea to ensure that you have continuous access to oxygen while your device is being repaired.
