You live in this huge and diverse country, and you should be able to travel it and see all the beauty it has to offer. Every year, more often during the late spring and summer, many families get into their Recreational Vehicle and take a nice long road trip. You shouldn’t have to let your need for oxygen therapy get in your way of getting the RV and leaving with your loved ones, or by yourself, for an on the road adventure across the United States.
It’s a fact that some oxygen concentrators work better than others for long distance use in a motor vehicle. You might already have an oxygen concentrator that you use daily for your prescribed oxygen doses, but is it sufficient for use on your RV road trip? Here are a few oxygen concentrators that would be best for use in an RV. If you are looking into getting something more portable than the one you have now to use on your vacation, this will help you make your selection.
While the SimplyFlo is not a portable oxygen concentrator, it would still be ideal to bring along with you in your RV for a long road trip, as long as you only need to use it at night or for just a few hours each day, or if you need no more than 2 LPM of continuous flow oxygen.
The SimplyFlo is the smallest stationary oxygen concentrator around, and only needs a little room on top of a table or next to your bed. When you’re stopped at a camp ground or other place where you can plug your RV into a motorhome shore cord, you will be able to plug it into the AC power outlet in your RV and use it while you sleep, or while you’re resting.
If you need a higher dose, or if you need to use your oxygen therapy for most of the day or all day, the portable Eclipse 5 would be the better choice. You can plug the Eclipse 5 into the RV’s DC outlet and even get your oxygen therapy while you are driving. The Eclipse 5 is small enough to nestle next to your seat, and the battery will charge up even as you are using it while plugged into DC power.
You can safely do this without worrying about any drain to the RV’s battery. Not all portable oxygen concentrators can charge and run simultaneously on DC power, or do so safely. For instance, the SeQual Eclipse 3 would end up causing too much drain to the battery of the vehicle.
The SeQual Equinox would also be perfect for travel in an RV as well, for this reason, and because it’s very small and powerful, with a battery that lasts a long time for sightseeing at those road side attractions!

we have a continuous flow oxygen concentrator and want to use it as the RV is traveling on the highway. What electrical connections are necessary? Any adapters?
You will need an inverter to run a home oxygen machine in an RV/motor home. The inverter should deliver 750 to 1,000 watts just to make sure you have more than enough electricity to power the device.
I also have DC power 12 volt machines available which draws less power and is also more convenient for traveling via RV and or airplane.
Toyota Siena now has a1500 watt inverter in it. Would I be able to camp in car with simply go hooked up on continuous setting of 1.5 without running the car
Is oxygen safe in an RV because of the stoves. You can not have flame with oxygen and must be 8 ft away from any range.

If we have portable oxygen and go camping how far does the oxygen need to be away from the heater?
It’s recommended that oxygen concentrators should be at least 8 feet away from sources of heat like a heater.
My wife has a invacare platinum 10. We put it in the Rv when going out of town or overnight stays. We tried using a 1500w power inverter. It works as long as we are driving but at an idle, the concentrator shuts off. Any suggestions? She needs 2-3 while at rest. Or should we think about a 12v portable? Sometimes we drive with the generator on. Thanks Dan
