Visit The Bonnet House Museum and Gardens

An Eclectic Spot For Art and Nature

As a waterfront museum located in a historic 1920s home, the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens is a must-see for Fort Lauderdale seniors. The house was bought by Hugh Taylor Birch in 1985, and at that time it had seen over 4,000 years of history in Florida. The home later changed hands to Frederic Clay Bartlett and his spouse, Evelyn Fortune Lilly. Both became acclaimed American artists and their work can be seen throughout the museum, gallery, and studio at the Bonnet House.

By visiting the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, seniors can step back in time to explore the stomping grounds of the ancient Tequesta Indians and early European colonists. The space is open to the public and offers group tours for deeper discussions into the history of the area. Adult classes are also hosted at the Bonnet House, providing Fort Lauderdale seniors with the opportunity to learn new skills such as basket weaving, orchid care, birdwatching, and calligraphy.

The Bonnet House is bursting with Florida History dating back thousands of years. With a visit to this one-of-a-kind Fort Lauderdale landmark, seniors can become more connected with their community and its deep roots.

  1. You are great but you should have a free or discounted beach parking for seniors over 65.
A lot of cities in same areas have it.
Easy access to the beach is most important for retirees with movement problems. Public walkways to the beach in the Gail Mile area are at great distances from each other. For example, residents Coral Ridge Towers have to walk 20 minutes to the beach. The city must agree with the condominiums on the passage of our seniors to the beach through their territory. Another way is to make additional passage to us between two condominiums on Galt Ocean Dr.
    Thank you!
