Many people look to Craigslist and similar sites to get a bargain on oxygen concentrators and other oxygen therapy items. You might already be aware that websites like these can be rife with scams, and even be a dangerous place to do business. Buying a microwave that breaks right after you buy it might be the worst that happens to you, but purchasing a used oxygen concentrator on one of these sites is a whole different story.

In general, you should always do your research before buying an oxygen concentrator. Will it meet your oxygen needs, as prescribed by your doctor? Will it suit your lifestyle needs by being portable if you travel a lot, or if you need to stay active? To save you from some major headaches, here are a few reasons why you shouldn’t buy oxygen concentrators from sites like Craigslist.

Danger #1: No Warranty

If you purchased a used oxygen concentrator from an individual, you can trust that it will not be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. When you purchase from an accredited medical supply company, your oxygen concentrator will be covered by warranty. While under warranty, you’ll be able to get parts replaced, or have the whole thing replaced at no charge.

Danger #2: Spending Too Much For Poor Quality

You also won’t be able to guarantee that the oxygen concentrator in question is worth the price. Just image – you’ve just purchased a oxygen concentrator that looked like it was newer and in good condition, but pretty soon you realize you’ve paid far too much for a low quality concentrator. It might be outdated and you can’t find accessories for it, or it just isn’t functioning at top capacity. Your oxygen concentrator needs to work the way it should, so you can get the oxygen dosage you need.

American Medical is an accredited seller, and our oxygen concentrators are brand new and high quality at some of the lowest prices you’ll find. You can trust that you’re getting what you pay for. You also should give your payment information to anyone who isn’t an accredited seller.

Danger #3: You Might Be Putting Yourself in Danger

Personal safety risks are another reason you should purchase something like an oxygen concentrator on a website like Craigslist. Even people who meet in a public place in broad daylight to make the purchase don’t know exactly what they are getting themselves into.

Danger #4: You Might Be Buying an Oxygen Concentrator on It’s Last Legs

Buying one that doesn’t work up to par is one thing, but you could even be buying one that doesn’t work at all, or it’s just about to break down. The seller might even offer to plug in the concentrator to show you that it works. However, it might not charge the battery all the way, or certain alarms have stopped working. There is a lot you would need to test before you buy an oxygen concentrator, so why not save yourself the hassle and buy from an accredited seller?
