At a meager five pounds with a small 8-cell battery and six pounds with a large 16-cell battery, the FreeStyle Comfort oxygen concentrator indeed is portable. Although it is small, it still offers five pulse dose settings and can deliver up to 1050 mL of oxygen per minute. With a small battery at a setting of 2, the unit will last 4 hours on average; at a setting of 5, it will last two hours.

The unit features CAIRE’s sensitive breath detection technology, UltraSense. When the unit doesn’t detect a breath for 15 seconds, it will automatically deliver oxygen at its current setting at 20 breaths per minute until it detects another breath.

Controls and Care

The control panel on the FreeStyle Comfort features just three buttons and a large color LCD display, which makes it easy for anyone to operate. On the right-hand side of the display is the power button; on the left are the “Increase Flow” and “Decrease Flow” buttons, which allow you to control the flow setting. All three buttons glow in the dark so you can see the control panel in low lighting.

The LCD screen displays the current flow setting, the battery charge, whether the unit is plugged into AC/DC power and an alarm indicator should an issue arise. Because the unit is also FAA approved, the screen will also display an airplane symbol when the unit is in Airplane mode.

Caring for the unit is easy: users must only clean the air intake filters on a weekly basis, though you may be advised to clean them more frequently. Users can also use a damp cloth and a mild disinfectant to clean the outside of the unit as needed.

Warranty

The unit comes with a 3-year warranty on the unit as well as 3 years on the sieve beds. The battery and accessories are covered for 1 year making this one of the best manufacturer warranties on a portable oxygen concentrator.
