What is the difference between CPAP and BiLevel therapy?

A patient that has been prescribed CPAP therapy has been diagnosed with OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) and only requires one continuous pressure. BiLevel therapy is physician prescribed for patients who have more complex sleep disorders. BiLevel therapy has two set pressures one for inhalation (IPAP) that is usually set between 10 -15 cm H2O and another for exhalation pressure (EPAP) that is usually set between 4-5 cm H2O the difference between the IPAP and EPAP settings is the pressure support. Your physician will determine which device and pressure setting is best for you.
