You have COPD and require a near constant use of oxygen therapy, but you don’t let that stop you in the slightest. You still go about your life – to work, social gatherings and you still have a long list of places around town that you would like to experience, different restaurants to check out, and trails to hike. Of course, you should still be able to do all things you planned on doing, as long as you only need to carry a very lightweight oxygen unit.

There is something that might be perfect for your needs. If you’ve been using liquid oxygen and are tired of ordering new refills for your home tank, there is something that is exactly the answer. The HomeLox and GoLox oxygen system.

The Respironics HomeLox creates and stores liquid oxygen right in your home, and the GoLox is what you would carry with you when you leave the house with your oxygen. The GoLox hooks up to the larger HomeLox machine and fills it with just the right amount of oxygen and shuts off automatically when it’s done. This is much easier and safer than trying to refill a portable tank from your home tank, which if not done properly, can result in liquid oxygen spills and burned skin.

The portable unit barely weighs in at 4 pounds, which is often less than the weight of a woman’s handbag or a bag of groceries. It comes with a soft, inconspicuous bag that you wear over your shoulder, or across from one shoulder to the other side of your body with an adjustable strap. After a while, you won’t even know that it’s there as you go about your errands or attend a party.

You won’t need to worry about recharging a battery or running out of battery life on the portable device while you are out and about. It runs on a pneumatic conserver, so the only thing you will need to consider is how long the oxygen will last. Once the portable unit is filled, it will provide you with a constant flow of oxygen for up to 10 hours. This gives you time to go to work and go out and about for the day. You will be able to see how much you have left, so you will have plenty of time to refill.

The home unit that creates and stores the liquid oxygen only needs to be plugged into a wall outlet to work. It is about the size of a large kitchen trash can and weighs about 100 pounds, so make sure it can be stored in a part of a room where it is out of the way. After you order your HomeLox, make sure you have cleared a spot for it, so they delivery service can quickly put in place when they arrive.

Once your HomeLox has been delivered, set up and is ready to go, you only have to wait about 30 minutes for it to create enough liquid oxygen to fill up the portable unit.

  1. Hi Scott,

I know the HomeLox has been discontinued for nearly a decade and it has been largely forgotten by most, and replaced with portable oxygen concentrators. However, I’m still attempting to keep one of these units running, using parts for the EverFlo, etc. But now the cooling system stopped working and I’m trying to find out what the refrigerant is in this system. Respironics told me they do not have that information, as they purchased the company long ago and then discontinued the product at some point afterward. I’m sure someone out there must know what I must charge the lines with. Can you please reply by email or call me at 248-298-9095? I would greatly appreciate that.

    Thanks,
    Paul

    • Hello Paul, we don’t have that information. We’d suggest searching for its service/technical manual. And searching for service/technical manual of similar products such as Caire HELiOS.
