Pneumonia and Respiratory Infections Still a Danger in the Summer

Pneumonia and Respiratory Infections Still a Danger in the Summer

Even though illnesses like respiratory infections, colds, the flu and pneumonia are all things that happen more often during the winter, they are still very likely to happen during the late spring and early summer months. People who already have respiratory conditions, such as asthma and COPD are naturally more affected than those with normally functioning lungs. This is even more dangerous with people who have compromised immune systems, on top of the lung diseases.

When anyone else catches a cold or a respiratory infection, they feel bad for a few days, take some antibiotics are are fine. Pneumonia and the flu can be dangerous for the elderly especially, no matter if they have a chronic lung disease or not. Even a cold can send someone with asthma or COPD to the hospital, because of the irritation and excessive production of mucus making it increasingly difficult to breathe. It can bring on acute asthma flare-ups and COPD exacerbations.

Why You Should Purchase an Oxygen Concentrator Package

Why You Should Purchase an Oxygen Concentrator Package

Let’s say, you’ve bought your first oxygen concentrator and you’re very happy with the product. That’s great! After a while of using it, you start to realize how much easier it would be to have at least one extra battery, and an external battery charger. Perhaps you’ve started to be more active and have started traveling, and you can’t board an airplane unless you have an extra, fully charged battery, which is often the case.

When you purchase a portable oxygen concentrator from us, you also get one or two batteries (if it comes with batteries you can remove and replace and depending on each model), a nasal cannula and rubber tubing, a carry bag and/or cart, a replacement filter (depending on the model), a manual and AC/DC adapters. These are all things you will need when you first start out.

Respirionics Homelox Golox Reviews

Respirionics Homelox Golox Reviews

This machine is not an oxygen concentrator, but it does create it’s own liquid oxygen, making it a huge convenience and a great investment, for those who need a high flow of oxygen on a regular basis. Instead of having to order liquid oxygen and worry about refilling tanks, you can just make it in your own home.

The Homelox is the large, 100 lb machine that generates its own stores of liquid oxygen, and the Golox is the 4 pound “tank” that you bring with you wherever you need to go to use your oxygen. You can bypass all of the problems that come along with using liquid oxygen, and it can hold 0.9 lbs of liquid oxygen, which is the gaseous equivalent to 308 liters. Many of our customers who have let us know how pleased they are with the Homelox system.

Meet Your Oxygen Needs with Pulse Dose and Continuous Concentrators

What to Look for in Pulse Dose and Continuous Flow Concentrators to Meet Your Oxygen Needs

Some people who need oxygen therapy need a lot more than others to achieve the right oxygen saturation, and the pulse settings on some brands of oxygen concentrators can be misleading. This is why you need to be especially carefully when shopping for an oxygen concentrator to meet your oxygen needs.

The flow settings on portable oxygen concentrators with pulse dose settings of 1 – 5, for example, aren’t necessarily the LPM or liter flow that you would get with a continuous flow concentrators, or compressed or liquid oxygen. You have to be careful and read the bolus sizes (the oxygen pulse sizes) and make sure this will be enough for you for each breath.

How Asthma Increases Your Risk of Developing COPD

How Asthma Increases Your Risk of Developing COPD

Those with moderate to severe asthma, especially those who were diagnosed as children, may have an increased risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). According to a 2015 study in the Journal of Thoracic Disease, 16% of people with asthma will develop “insufficient airway reversibility after 21-33 years” living with the disease. [1] This is because, if uncontrolled with medications, the inner walls of the airways can undergo “remodeling” over time, causing the airways to be irreversibly narrowed—this is where COPD comes in: when the narrowing of airways is no longer reversible. COPD on The Rise in Women

COPD on The Rise in Women

A new health report shows that women are now 37% more likely to develop COPD, or die from smoking-related illnesses than their male counterparts. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, was more prevalent among men not that long ago, but new statistics show that more and more women have picked up the habit of smoking, but even so, men are still smoking a little more than women on the whole.

COPD (which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis), is caused mainly by smoking – 90% of COPD cases caused by smoking, while the other 10% is caused by air pollution and a very rare genetic condition known as alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency. Even though on the average, men have been smoking for a longer amount of time and tend to smoke a little more than women, women are developing COPD and other smoking complications at a higher rate. Experts have a few suggestions for why this is:

Fixed CPAP Machines Comparisons and Reviews

A fixed CPAP machine delivers a constant or “fixed” flow of air, which is used to treat sleep apnea.
